Alabama Tech Trek Summer Camp
The event is being held at the University of Alabama -Huntsville Campus. Tech Trek brings in 64 rising eighth-grade girls from across Alabama, all nominated by their science or math teacher, who are immersed in STEM subject matter. They are a cross-section of girls, some of whom may not have the parental support to take them through to a STEM career. Many have never been on a college campus before (we're trying to break that fear down!), or been around successful women in STEM careers.
They are immersed in STEM subjects all week. We hold four core classes and the campers are assigned to one based on their requests before camp starts. During core class time, the campers learn, then turn their knowledge around to present at the Tech Trek Expo, held on campus on Friday of camp. We bring in sponsors and teachers to see the projects. The campers are amazingly excited to present their projects to the visitors.
We are asking the AstraFemina speaker to provide a presentation on their career and journey in STEM. They anticipate a talk with Q&A and would like minimum of an hour but are happy to go longer! Requesting in-person.
